SATURDAY UPDATE: Black Adam added a tally of 19 purchases on Friday and has now collected $30.2 million in its first three days at the international box office. Friday earned $15.8 million with the Dwayne Johnson starrer ranking as the No. 1 US film in all 76 markets where it was released. With these results, we’re still eyeing the $70 million range for the first weekend overseas.
In new launches, Friday added the UK with $2M on 1,500 screens and ranking a clear No. 1 with a 58% share of the top 5 films. The results are +52% ahead of Shazam!, 53% ahead of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, 129% ahead of Jungle Cruise and 291% ahead of Skyscraper. IMAX’s share was a very solid 9% of the total box office.
Also joining the fray, Spain debuted Friday with $587,000 on 689 screens. Black Adam dominated the market with a share of almost 60% in the Top 5. Premium formats performed very well taking 4.6% of the total box office. Opening day results trail ahead of Jumanji 2 (+38%), Shazam! (+79%), Skyscraper (+187%) and Jungle Cruise (+231%).

Anecdotally, we hear the family game is stronger than expected.
More to come on Sunday…
EARLIER, FRIDAY: Warner Bros/New Line/DC’s Black Adam opened at the international box office on Wednesday and has soared to $13.8 million from 57 markets through Thursday. Today it adds the UK and Spain as the overseas rollout continues.
Initial markets to launch on Wednesday included France and Korea. In the former, the Dwayne Johnson starrer has collected $1 million in its first two days. In Korea, the film leads all games by a wide margin. It follows the typical market cycle of a top start on Wednesday, then a drop on Thursday and a rebound on Friday and is up $1.3 million year to date (this total is not reflected in the two-day offshore surge above).
A notable start on Thursday was India’s $1M which marks the second biggest debut ever for Warner Bros and the biggest for DC as well. Diwali holidays are ahead.
Elsewhere, Thursday’s opening in Mexico of $850,000 was 9% ahead of the Johnson-starrer Jumanji: The Next Level and 63% ahead of 2018’s blockbuster Skyscraper.
In Australia, Thursday’s $750,000 opening was 80% higher than Skyscraper and 87% higher than Shazam!
Although an overseas weekend isn’t confirmed until we get Friday’s numbers, we expect Black Adam to land near its projected opening range. Critics are disappointed, but fans are loyal. As Anthony mentioned, domestic previews have been strong.
Audiences are hungry for new product, and wherever it lands, let’s hope this is the start of seasons to come.
