The BCMP says the Campbell River RCMP has received reports of homicide at a marina at Discovery Harbor, located at 2300-square-foot Spit Road, with additional hostages being held at the scene. Police and members of the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded. “Officers have confirmed the safety of the hostages and contacted the male suspect,” the RCMP said in a statement. “Attempts were made to negotiate with the man, who was reported to be in possession of a weapon.” IIO BC says that when officers arrived at the scene, there were no more hostages. A spokesman for the IIO BC told CHEK News that police officers fired and an IIO investigation will determine if anyone other than the police fired. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. IIO BC was informed of the incident and investigators have rushed to the scene. This is a story that unfolds. More details will be added as soon as they become available. Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story had stated that the incident took place in the wrong marina. CHEK News regrets the mistake.
