A drink driver was jailed for leaving a woman with life-threatening injuries after crashing into her. Michael Marsden, 23, went to a bottomless brunch in Surrey Guildford, where he drank 11 cocktails on June 4 last year. After that, he drove his BMW to several pubs in Aldershot, Hampshire, where he had another 15 shots and two pints of lager. In the early hours of the next morning he struck Angel Taylor, 21, as she was walking home, causing horrific injuries that resulted in her losing her leg. Her life was saved only when a police inspector and a paramedic who were both off duty put on a tourniquet to prevent blood loss. Marsden fled the scene and went home to Farnham. When he was located, his car was missing a mirror and there was a crack in the front bumper. His phone records show he was looking at Surrey police’s website the day after Angel’s Farnham Bypass hit and texting friends. He admitted what he had done at Guildford Crown Court on Friday. Marsden was sentenced to three years in prison and a four-year driving ban. Detective Rick Edwards said: “Throughout this investigation, Marsden did not show remorse for what he did and witnessed a mockery of the conflict between his friends. “The victim showed great courage last year and I hope that this result closes her a little and allows her to move on with her life. “It was extremely fortunate that Inspector Adam Smith was driving at the time and, along with the paramedics involved, saved the lives of the young victims.” Contact our news team by emailing us at [email protected] For more stories like this, check out our news page.
