It seems we have recently learned more about the upcoming Doctor Who 60th Anniversary celebrations next year than about the imminent departure of Jodie Whittaker’s current doctor a few months from now. And yet, the more we learn about the 60s, the more unknown it becomes. The latest news from the BBC is that Neil Patrick Harris has joined the upcoming special in an important, unknown role. An image of Harris’ character has been released, but no further details have been released on his role: Image: BBC There is definitely a kind of craft / inventor atmosphere going on here, but beyond that, who can say? Not incoming showrunner Russell T. Davies, that’s for sure. “But who, why, what is at stake,” Davis said theatrically in a new statement released by the BBC. “It simply came to our notice then. But I promise you, the things we are turning now are out of scale. Doctor, be careful! “ Harris joins returnees David Tennad and Kathryn Tate at the 60th Anniversary Special Event, reviving their roles as the 10th Doctor (or at least some version of the Doctor) and Donna Noble respectively. Harris joins his fellow Heartstopper co-star Yasmin Finney, who plays a similarly mysterious character … named Rose. Maybe this Rose, maybe another Rose, maybe connected, but once again: who knows? The special will air either on or around the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, on November 23, 2023. Meanwhile, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor will return for her swan song in an untitled show with Sacha Dhawan’s Master later this year. . Want more news on io9?
