Rebel Wilson expressed the anger of the fans after an Australian newspaper revealed her plans to seemingly exclude her. But first, here’s a reminder of how we got here.

In May, Rebel said she was “happily in a relationship”, revealing that she and her new partner had been set up by a mutual friend. At the time, the actress did not share details about the identity of her partner, nor did she respond to Page Six’s request to comment on the matter.

Quickly last Thursday, Rebel shared an adorable photo of herself and her girlfriend Ramona Agruma on Instagram, writing: “I thought I was looking for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney princess … #Love is love. ”
If you follow Rebel, you will know that this was not the first time Ramona appeared on her Instagram page. Not only that, but the duo also went to the red carpet at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party in March.
However, until its post on Thursday, it was not known if the two were in a relationship, with reports just months ago that Rebel may have been dating an Australian colleague, tennis player Matt Reid.

With all this in mind, plus the special context of Rebel’s Instagram caption, most fans rushed to interpret the post as its official release.

But the next day, as fans happily celebrated Rebel’s sweet post, the Sydney Morning Herald published a deleted article claiming it knew about the relationship between Rebel and Ramona long before it was confirmed.

Not only that, the newspaper also wrote that he had contacted Rebel on Thursday and given her “two days to comment on her new relationship” before publishing a story about her.

The song’s author, renowned reporter Andrew Hornery, went on to say that contact with Rebel was a “big mistake”, indicating that it gave her the freedom to cancel her hopes for a story.

“Wilson chose to target the story by posting about her new ‘Disney Princess’ on Instagram early Friday morning,” Hornery wrote. “The same platform she used in the past to brag about her handsome ex-boyfriend, the rich American beer baron Jacob Busch.”

He also blamed Rebel’s successful defamation lawsuit against Women’s Day, which unjustly labeled the actor a liar. The author used this suit to argue that Rebel’s decision not to answer the “discreet, genuine and honest questions” of his publication was “depressing”, given how “bitterly he complained about poor journalistic standards” in her legal battle. with the magazine.

And if fans weren’t confused enough, then the post seemed to undermine the historic issue of anti-LGBTQ fanaticism within showbusiness, writing about Rebel: “At the age of 42 and at a time when gay marriage is legal in many parts of the country. “And – thanks to decades of fighting for equality – sexual orientation is no longer something to be hidden, even in Hollywood.”
Readers on all social media sites rushed to express their shock and anger, with many accusing the post of trying to eliminate Rebel.

“I just read this part of @smh 3 times to make sure I did not read it wrong,” journalist Megan Mohan wrote on Twitter. “The post sent a message to Rebel Wilson saying she would be released in two days – and now she complains that she chose to announce her relationship with a woman herself. Quite amazing. ”

Others speculate that Rebel was pressured to share her Instagram post last week amid fears that the post would “drive her away violently”.
I’m so disgusted with it. it turns out that the rebel Wilson came out only to avoid being violently taken out and now this newspaper is pissed at her because he spoiled their scoop ?? so they wrote this mess ?? I am so angry and so sorry for the revolutionary, no one deserves it. 12:21 p.m. – June 11, 2022 Twitter: @sapphoslibrary
In addition, many underlined the sad irony that this happens during Pride Month.
In case you were wondering how Pride Month is going, @smh contacted Rebel Wilson to say they would be dating her in the next few days, so when Rebel came out on her own, reporters exploded that she had been robbed. an exclusive. 07:13 a.m. – June 11, 2022 Twitter: @manwithoutatan
In the aftermath of the huge backlash, the Sydney Morning Herald initially denied allegations that it had pressured Rebel, instead claiming that “it simply asked questions and as a matter of course included a deadline for reply”.

This provoked further widespread criticism, and the agency later issued a full apology, in which Hornery acknowledged that the publication had “inappropriate steps” in its reports.

“It’s not the Herald’s job to ‘get people out’ and it’s not what we intended to do. “But I understand why my email is considered a threat,” he wrote. “His framing was wrong.”

Horneri also said that “as a homosexual”, “he is well aware of how deeply discrimination hurts”, adding that he would never want to “cause this pain to anyone else”. The track has been removed from the Sydney Morning Herald website.

Responding to a reporter who wrote on Twitter about her shock and disgust for the publication’s actions, Rebel hinted that although the situation is difficult, she is following the high path.

Rebel also liked a ton of supportive tweets from fans, many of whom shouted the Sydney Morning Herald while praising Rebel for handling the situation.
My jaw on the floor the way Rebel was treated by @smh. I really hope you feel all the support and ❤️ for you around the world @RebelWilson. You have handled a completely awful situation in an incredibly aristocratic way. I agree 100% with you @meghamohan. 06:17 a.m. – 13 June 2022 …
