Herd made the remarks during an interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, a preview of which aired Monday morning on the network’s Today show. “I do not blame [the jury] “I really understand,” Herd said of the Depp verdict. “He is a favorite character and people feel they know him. He is a fantastic actor. “ Heard, however, was critical of social media commentators, saying they were unjustifiably and overwhelmingly on Depp’s side throughout the seven-week trial. An NBC article accompanying the preview of Herd’s interview noted that the hashtag TikTok #justiceforjohnnydepp had nearly 20 billion views while the #justiceforamberheard garnered about 80 meters. Meanwhile, #amberheardisguilty and hashtags with a similar theme garnered 900 million views, NBC reported. “I do not care what anyone thinks of me or what crises you want to make about what happened in my private life, in my marriage, behind closed doors,” Herd said. “I do not think the average person should know these things. And so I do not take it personally. “But even someone who is sure that I deserve all this hatred and vitriol, even if you think I’m lying, you could not look me in the eye and tell me that you think there was a fair representation on social media. “You can not tell me that you think that was fair.” A jury in a Virginia court on June 1 sentenced Depp to $ 15 million for three counts of defamation allegedly incited by Herd in a Washington Post article in 2018. Heard did not name Depp in the song, in who described herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse”. The judge who presided over the case later reduced the award to the actor who once starred in the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to $ 10.35 million. At the hearing, she won a counterattack, with jurors giving the Aquaman actress $ 2 million after she claimed that a Depp press agent had defamed her by calling her allegations of “abuse prank” aimed at exploiting the #MeToo movement. The jury’s verdict completed the process, which included dozens of witnesses and experts examining whether Depp abused Herd – or vice versa – during their 15-month marriage, which ended in 2016. Herd said she intends to appeal jurors while Depp thanked them that, as he said, they gave him back his life. Both actors testified extensively during the trial. In a statement Monday, a Heard spokesman said the actor’s interview with Guthrie was a reaction to Depp’s appearances following the media verdict. “Mrs. Herd just intended to respond to what they did aggressively.” [and] “she did so by expressing her thoughts and feelings, many of which she was not allowed to witness,” the statement added.
