A Maryland sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed on duty Sunday night as he tried to arrest a fugitive, authorities said. Wicomico County First Class Deputy Glenn Hilliard, 41, spotted the suspect leaving a Pittsville apartment complex and chased him, the sheriff’s office said. While trying to apprehend the suspect, Hilliard was shot dead. Following an extensive manhunt, authorities arrested the suspect. Authorities did not immediately name the suspect, who is said to be wanted on multiple warrants in multiple jurisdictions. An earlier warning from the sheriff’s office said a man named Austin Davidson was wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting on Gumboro Street in Pittsville that night. Davidson, who was considered armed and dangerous, was later identified, according to the sheriff’s office.
