On Sunday, during a stellar event, the 75th annual Tony Awards hosted by Ariana DeBose recognized the best live movies of the past year, celebrating the achievements of the 2021-2022 season. Everyone, from RuPaul Charles to the children of Michael Jacksons, Paris and Prince, took the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York to honor the many acclaimed productions, including the host-produced A Strange Loop of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and MJ, the jukebox musical about the life and career of the late pop star. Other top nominees were Paradise Square, Company, The Lehman Trilogy, Six and For Colored Girls, while in the acting categories Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rachel Dratch, Ruth Negga and Uzo Aduba are competing for individual awards. Set in four hours, the night began for the first time with the Tony: Act One Awards with presenters Darren Criss and Julianne Hough, an hour of exclusive content presented at Paramount +. The celebration then continued on CBS as the 2022 Tony Awards were distributed live. Of course, as every year, there were many surprises and unexpected moments throughout the ceremony, with Angela Lansbury among the most remarkable honorees of the evening.
