John Cannan, 68, is receiving palliative care at the end of his life in prison. Suzy’s family, whose body was never discovered, will now hope that Cannan will finally reveal what happened to her before she died. Police named him as the main suspect in the disappearance of 25-year-old Suzy in Fulham, West London, in July 1986. He is serving a life sentence for another murder and always denies any connection to Suzy’s case. Susie’s brother, Richard, was unaware of his medical condition but urged him to reveal the truth before he died. He told the Mirror: “I would like Cannan, if he knows, to tell us what happened to Suze. Her white Ford Fiesta was later found outside a property for sale on Stevenage Road about a mile and a half away. The doors were unlocked, the parking brake was closed and her bag was found in a side pocket. In 2002, police finally named Canan as the prime suspect in Suzy’s disappearance and murder. Officers have conducted a number of excavations in recent years on Suzy’s body, including Worcestershire in 2019. In 2018, the garden at Canan’s former’s home in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, was also surveyed. The former car salesman was sentenced to three years in prison for the abduction and murder of Shirley Banks, 29, in 1987. In 2019, Canaan spoke to the Sunday Mirror in a phone call from his cell before a previous release offer. He said: “I had no involvement in the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh. Det Supt retiree Jim Dickie, who spent six years investigating Suzy’s abduction, said: “Cannan is still a suspect in the disappearance and murder of Suzy Lamplugh. “He is extremely manipulative and should not be trusted.” In a previous interview, Susie’s brother Richard added: “If she did, I would like to know where she is and then we can bury her where we want to bury her, rather than where she was buried.
