It was March 2015 and the 44-year-old was living in Denver, Colorado with her husband Robert Feldman and their two children. They had been married for a decade. Nurturing Stacy was a fantastic mother with a great sense of humor who enjoyed having fun with her children. But police were alerted to a tragedy on March 1, when her husband called 911. Feldman said he had come home and found his wife not responding to the bath with the water still running. He said he had taken her out and had CPR. Feldman had picked up his children from Sunday school and taken them to a carnival, saying that when Stacey returned he was seriously injured in the bathroom. Did he take a shower and slip? Rescuers rushed to the scene, but, tragically, Stacy could not be saved. Feldman told the emergency services what he thought might have happened. She said she drank some edible marijuana the night before at a party, along with some wine, and that she felt sick that day, something that could have made her slip. He also suggested that she may have had a medical condition that caused her to collapse. Stacy was known for her sense of humor With so many unanswered questions, the police were surprised when Feldman was reluctant to conduct an autopsy. Did he not want to know what killed his wife? There was very little water outside the bathroom, too, something that those on stage found unusual. How did Stacey get pulled without splashing water on the floor? The autopsy proceeded. Stacey had injuries on her body, but it was concluded that they were caused by falling or dragging outside the bathroom. And while Feldman did not appear to have undergone cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he claimed, the paramedics did, which could cause bruising. There was also no sign of marijuana in Stacy’s system. Her death was described as “unspecified” and her family was unhappy with the lack of answers. Feldman, meanwhile, has secured a $ 750,000 life insurance policy that he entered into five years earlier.
“Finish with him”
Then, three months later, a woman contacted the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers hotline. He had seen Stacey’s obituary and felt compelled to contact her – revealing that she was Feldman’s mistress. They met on Tinder a month before Stacy died and started a relationship. After a few dates, they had sex. Feldman had told her he was divorced. The woman was not convinced, so she went online and found out he was still married. On the morning of Stacey’s death, Feldman’s lover had emailed Stacey to ask if they were still together. Stacey had called her and revealed that they were still married – and had allegedly said that Feldman was unfaithful in the past and that she “ended up with him”. Hours later, Stacey was dead. Feldman was sentenced to life in prison When Feldman’s mistress read Stacey’s fate and saw that he had died the same day they had spoken of the case, it was an alarm. The researchers had some shocking new information, but it would take them two years to find a medical expert who could help them act on it. In October 2017, a young doctor specializing in domestic violence injuries examined Stacy’s case. She said she believed her injuries were the result of “an attack, which included trauma from blunt force, strangulation and suffocation”. Feldman was arrested in February 2018 and charged with first-degree murder. He was accused of killing Stacey and then directing it to look like an accident. It seemed that Stacey’s family, who were constantly campaigning for justice, was finally going to get some answers. Feldman was released on bail and allowed to live under house arrest – although he left home when he should not. And despite legal challenges from Stacey’s family, Feldman used $ 550,000 of his wife’s life insurance policy to pay for his defense team. Their legal guardian argued that the money should have gone to Stacey’s children – not to defend a man who had potentially killed their mother. The couple has been married for 10 years Feldman’s trial began in April this year, seven years after Stacey’s death, and he pleaded not guilty. The defense told him he was unfaithful in the past and Stacey knew it, so why had he killed his wife because of that infidelity? They insisted he died of natural causes, possibly from an enlarged heart, and reminded the jury that the results of the autopsy had been discussed by many experts. But the prosecution said Stacy had been beaten and strangled by her husband because she had confronted him over his case. And they said it was no coincidence that he died the same day he had spoken to Feldman’s new lover. Stacey had said she was “done with him.” It was the last straw and they were likely to quarrel while the children were not at home.
The mistress testified in court
The day she died, Stacey had to pick up her children from Sunday school – but Feldman was there an hour late. The prosecutor said he was late because he was cleaning and directing the scene. Feldman had appeared in shorts – even though the weather was cold. He then took the children to a church carnival and returned home to “discover” his wife. “Stacy Feldman can not tell you what happened that day, but her body can,” the prosecutor said. “And what he is telling you is that he suffered a long, prolonged and horrible beating. “It was not CPR. This was not from pulling her out of the bathtub. This was not a simple collapse in the shower. “What this is is proof of a vicious overthrow.” Feldman’s mistress testified in court, saying that they had met in the dating application and that he was pressuring her for nude photos before they even met. Stacey found out about her mistress the day she died He said Feldman also lied about his name several times. When confronted, he said he used fake names because of his bad divorce and a stalker. They had dated and had sex – but when they went to arrange to meet again, he had justified it, making her suspicious. After contacting Stacey, they had spoken on the phone as Feldman left their children in church. Feldman’s mistress told Stacey that she had been reported as an absent mom – a charge Stacey had described as “unbelievable”. Prosecutors said Stacey had confronted Feldman when he returned and killed her. And the jurors agreed. After talking for just two hours, they found Feldman, 58, guilty of first-degree murder. Shortly afterwards, the judge handed down his sentence and Stacy’s mother, Dorothy Malman, testified. “It’s all because you could not zip up your pants and agree to the divorce that Stacey wanted,” she told Feldman. Stacey’s sister, Susan Malman Altman, said her family had been fighting for seven years to prove Feldman was guilty. They had even paid for a private search to gather evidence. “Instead of letting her rejoice, he killed her,” he said. The judge sentenced Feldman to life in prison without the possibility of release. Feldman had tried to escape the murder and, for a moment, it seemed he could.
