Weather alerts apply from East Kootenay to Central Okanagan. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for parts of BC Southern Interior due to heavy rainfall in the forecast. Counseling extends from East Kootenay to Central Okanagan and North Okanagan, including Vernon and Kelowna. Environment Canada says a low-pressure center over Montana will slowly make its way to southern Alberta on Sunday night and stay until Monday and Tuesday. The humidity that revolves around the low will bring the possibility of prolonged rainfall, with total amounts from 20 to 40 millimeters possible in Okanagan. A rain warning was issued for the Elk Valley, where 50 to 80 millimeters are possible. Environment Canada notes that there is some uncertainty about the exact trajectory of the low and this could have an effect on the amount of rainfall in the affected areas. Flood surveillance applies to the East Kootenay and West Kootenay areas and a high flow alert was issued for the South Thompson Basin on Sunday, including the Eagle, Shuswap and Seymour rivers. The system, which is moving upwards over the US, is expected to rain even more in parts of Alberta, with the Calgary area being between 75 and 125 millimeters long.
