Police are investigating a shooting at the Burnaby that sent a 19-year-old man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Friday night. The Burnaby RCMP received a report of a possible shooting in the area of 19th Avenue and Humphreys Avenue around 11:20 p.m., according to a press release. At the scene, police located a 19-year-old man with what police believe was a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say the victim is not cooperating with her investigation. He received first aid on the spot before being transported to the hospital. Witnesses said they saw a dark-colored vehicle leave the area before police arrived, according to the statement. A similar vehicle was spotted in the flames in North Burnaby shortly afterwards, the statement said. The Burnaby Fire Department was called to set fire to a vehicle at 9000 Ashgrove Cres. at about 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Assistant Fire Chief Gavin Summers. Crews found a “very involved car on the side of the road,” he told NOW. After extinguishing the fire, he said firefighters left the burnt car in the care of the Burnaby RCMP, as it was considered a “suspicious vehicle of the crime earlier in the night”. “Everything has gone to RCMP,” Summer said. Police investigators did not believe the incident was related to a gang clash in Lower Mainland, but described it as “targeted”. “This kind of event can be scary for everyone,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. said Mike Kalanj in the announcement. “However, we do not believe that this targeted attack poses a further risk to the public.” Anyone with a dash-cam video in the area of 19th Avenue and Humphrey Avenue is required to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 between 11pm and midnight.
