After being referred for a mammogram, Sarah went to the hospital for a checkup. However, the breast surgeon who was waiting behind the door only confused her by telling her that she had a “precancerous”. Sara added: “I remember being in shock and incredibly confused by the language used by the surgeon. Was it cancer or not? “A few moments later, the surgeon was talking about a mastectomy and showing me pictures of the surgeries he had done. “I was in shock and I was alone.” DON’T MISS Despite the fact that her cancer returns, she chooses to remain positive. Sarah said: “I have no illusions about the seriousness of my condition, but I chose to focus on life.” She even started a swimsuit label called Hākinakina, inspired by her breast cancer. Sarah said: “Having recently recovered from cancer, I was looking for a swimsuit that would fit my active lifestyle and offer me the high level of protection I needed to cover radiation burns. “I was left with limited options. All I could find were pinched bikinis or tired caps. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. “ The business owner who loves adventure now focuses on the “here and now”. He concluded: “I will continue to make beautiful pieces that look beautiful and keep you all safe, as well as build a community that inspires and shows others to live with an incurable disease that we can live long, happy, prosperous lives.”
