The Liberal Party of British Columbia says its representatives have voted to start a process to change the party’s name. This comes as about 800 members gathered at a conference in Penticton this weekend to welcome new leader Kevin Falcon and map out their strategy for the upcoming 2024 fall county elections. Falcon, who won the leadership race earlier this year, said in a statement that the party’s name “should be one that reflects a diverse and inclusive coalition of big scenes”. He says each member will have the opportunity to vote on a new proposed name or keep the current one until the end of the year. The party says it plans to appoint an executive to form a name change committee. The BC Liberals are not affiliated with the federal Liberal Party and have described themselves as a “free enterprise coalition built in BC”.
