The Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) advises not to travel to Sri Lanka except as necessary due to ongoing political and economic instability. Several incidents of violence broke out on May 9 against peaceful protesters, including in the Galle Face area of Colombo, where security forces used tear gas and water cannons.
Incidents also occurred in the Fort area, Lake Beira in Colombo, Candy and other parts of the country, some resulting in injuries and loss of life. However, this has now been extended until 30 June 2022. All customers affected by the cancellations will be notified in due course. TUI said: “Due to the ongoing political and economic instability in Sri Lanka, the Office of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) has advised them not to travel beyond what is necessary. “As a result, we unfortunately had to cancel all our Sri Lankan holidays departing until 30 June 2022. We will contact all affected customers precautionarily with a departure date order to discuss their options. “Please note that this advice does not apply to customers passing through Sri Lanka International Airport and guests staying at the resort can continue to enjoy their vacation as planned.
