The teenager had been beaten and then stabbed in the chest, after being found in the wrong place at the wrong time and attacked by a group of teenagers. The person holding the knife was also just 14 years old and has been issued a referral warrant for young people in the community after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. Swansea Crown Court heard that the background of the attack was a fight the previous day between friends of the victim and friends of the teenager with the knife, a fight with which the victim had nothing to do. On the day of the attack, a group of eight young people traveled from Swansea to Gorseinon in search of “revenge”. One of the group was armed with a knife and a metal bar. Around 18:00 the group met the victim and several of them repeatedly punched the boy before hitting him with the metal pole and then stabbing him. Then the gang disbanded and the blade was thrown. The stabbed boy’s mother said she and her partner rushed to the scene after being told what had happened and found her son bleeding profusely and slipping in and out of his senses. He said: “I screamed again and again for someone to help my son until two amazing ladies who had stopped in the traffic came to help. I pulled out my top so they could use it to stop the bleeding, but in a few minutes it was soaked full of blood. “When I was talking to him to keep him awake, he put his hand on my face and said, ‘I love you mom, but I’m going to die.’ I had to hear it from my baby. I just cried, I held his face and told him I love him and he can not leave me, and he must stay awake even if this is the last time he listens to me – and Fortunately he stayed with me. He fought so hard and I could not “I’m more proud. His lungs, liver and diaphragm were pierced, and he’m a very lucky boy. And we’re very lucky parents to have such a fighter on our hands.” A forensic examination was performed at the bus stop (Image: John Myers) The injured person was transported to the hospital with bruises and grazing on his face and legs, a wound on his chest, reduced breathing, damage to his diaphragm and a cut in the liver of 7 cm in length. The police investigation that followed identified a number of young people who participated in the attack, including the boy who used the knife. He was arrested and in the interview answered “no comment” to all the questions asked. Earlier this week, the teenager who inflicted the stab wound – who is not named because of his age – received a two-year referral order for supervised youth, a knife crime program requirement and a three-month electronic surveillance ban after previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of possession of an assault rifle. The mother of the injured boy described the Youth Referral Decree proposal as “disgusting” and said she and her partner were disappointed with the judiciary. He said he planned to launch a petition calling on anyone carrying a knife in public to be sentenced to imprisonment regardless of age. He said: “The system is broken. Giving them a slap in the face is not about teaching these kids a lesson, but telling them it’s okay if you’re 14, we’ll give you a chance because you have not been before. an opportunity if they had killed my boy? Would an “apology” be okay then? “The proposal is disgusting – it is a green light for children to carry knives. The system needs to be shaken up and it will start here. I will start a request that, regardless of age, carrying a knife should be a prison sentence.” Another member of the group who attacked the boy is awaiting sentencing for his involvement in the incident after being convicted of assault that caused actual bodily harm in a Swansea Youth Court trial. A third defendant was acquitted.
