This year was the Eurocucina exhibition, which alternates every two years with the Euroluce lighting exhibition. The event was a treasure trove of kitchen innovations that we expect to reshape kitchen trends of the future. These, from a pop-up closet hidden inside a kitchen island to a beautifully hand-painted oven, are what set it apart.

These are the trends identified by H&G editors at this year’s show – and why you should know them, wherever you are.

1. Poliform hidden folding bench cabinet

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) The Italian kitchen maker Poliform (opens in a new tab) is known for its ability to create beautiful kitchens that are also incredibly practical. Their latest innovation is an emerging cabinet (photo above, hidden on the desktop and below, revealed). It is an example of how to use space wisely and create an improved design without sacrificing function – and it is a feature that will revolutionize closet ideas in modern spaces of all sizes.

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) “The Deep Shaker Move is a modular retractable system to the top of the island,” says Poliform. “It can be equipped with shelves and containers, as well as with a built-in hood. The top surface has the same finish as the top of the kitchen so that it is invisible. ‘ “This was a special piece at the Salone and it was getting a lot of attention. “What we love about this folding cabinet is that its discreet, elegant nature allows you to hide appliances and clutter,” says Lucy Searle, Editor in Chief of Homes & Gardens. “When not in use, it fits on the kitchen counter to create an improved finish. At the touch of a button, it goes up smoothly to make what you regularly use easily accessible. ‘

2. Scavolini cupboard

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) Scavolini (opens in a new tab) has been adapted to reflect a change in tastes and style over the last six decades – but the modern kitchen idea shown above is one of the most notable. Their new kitchen combines masculine lines with whimsical handles (by Venetian designer Luca Nichetto (opens in a new tab)) to create the most incredible but powerful combination of the moment. The brand combines raw industry with mystical shapes to create cabinets that make a statement in homes of any style – and have our approval. “Another element of the kitchen from above that stands out are the open shelves with contrasting lacquer. “This was a kitchen feature we saw in most kitchen brands, although it was remarkable that cubbies are used for both practical storage and decorative display,” says Lucy Searle. “Scavolini is a brand that is always pushing for innovation, whether in the cabinet or in technology,” adds Sarah Spiteri, Homes & Gardens’ editorial director. In addition to the playful kitchen designed by Nichetto, we loved the new Alexa feature line. ‘

3. Handmade decorated Officine Gullo oven

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) When custom kitchen makers meet the Tuscan fashion house Aquazzura (opens in new tab), is a match made in design paradise. The result? A wonderful oven with a secret design inspired by the garden. This collaboration invites you to see Officine Gullo (opens in a new tab) the quintessence of the kitchen in a playful new way – because 2022 is the year you make an artistic statement through your appliances. “Each of these pieces is hand-painted, so you’ll never find two of the same,” says Lucy Searle. “If you look closely, you can even see pencil marks where the artist has made the first sketches. Officine Gullo told me that interest in this piece was strong and that many buyers asked if they could paint their own to order. This is not available at this time, but watch this time. ‘

4. Marazzi benches

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) This year we saw a lot of new, bold news kitchen countertop ideasfrom shiny, internally lit marble to invisible bench discovery. The latest material to enter the discussion comes from Marazzi (opens in a new tab), who experiment with durable surfaces that reproduce the beautiful veins seen in the original stone. The company, known for its ceramic tiles, also introduced a built-in kitchen surface that further fuels the desire for invisible appliances – creating an elegant, clean look that will be hard to break out of fashion. “Marazzi shows exactly what is possible when you work with replica stone, with incredible finishes that have a real impact,” says Sarah. “Another element we found and further contributed to the improved appearance was the kitchen controls that were integrated into the counters and in the front of the cupboard, as shown below in this kitchen by Steel Cucine (opens in a new tab),” adds Lucy.

5. The curves of Cesar Cucine

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) It’s time to rethink your own kitchen island ideas and leave room for the Cesar Cucine curve bid (opens in a new tab), as shown below. The unusual island caught our attention at the Salone del Mobile and it is easy to understand why this statement is so enchanting. The above design plays with similar circular shapes (including the luminaire and the sink) that emphasize the curve of the island and bring a completely new look to an (already) modern setting. Sarah Spiteri spoke to Cesar Cucine’s design team, who explained that “they are willing to use soft edges to create a pleasant and social kitchen”, in the same way that we are all attracted to round dining rooms. “Curves and circles have been a real issue at the Salon this year, and not just in the kitchens,” adds Lucy Searle. “Newer sofa designs have incredible curves and silhouettes that soften the square proportions of the rooms and this is a trick that easily translates into kitchens.”

6. Unox Casa oven

(Image: Future / Sarah Spiteri) Unox Casa is established as a leader in the high-end oven industry – for a good reason. Theirs SuperOven (opens in a new tab) (above) makes it possible to achieve a restaurant-level kitchen in a home environment – thanks to its highly specific pre-programmed functions that make the cooking process feel seamless. While its minimalist design gets points in the interior world, its technological capabilities remain hidden, so you can enjoy a powerful oven without altering your design. This oven is definitely worth the investment. “What we liked about it – and so much of what we saw at the Salon – was the equal attention paid to both form and function.
